Horrific moment tourist slams into cliff wall after botched jump into water

Instagram footage has shown the shocking moment a tourist fell onto rocks after attempting to jump off a cliff into shallow waters below. The incident took place in the Fiordo di Furore, which translates as “Fjord of Fury” and is a narrow cove with steep cliffs running up either side of the water, while it also has an arched bridge over its top. It is 40 miles south of the Italian city of Naples, on the coast.

Onlookers can be heard screaming as the woman tries to cling to the cliff’s edge after indecisively stepping off.

The horrific incident was caught on camera by Australian tourist Kal Glanzig, who moments before the woman jumped joked about how important travel insurance is.

In the video, Mr Glanzig said: “On this week’s episode of why you should get travel insurance, we have old mate [the woman] who has no idea what the water temp is.”

The woman can then be heard screaming as she falls down the rock into the waters below.

Her legs appear to hit a small rock surface jutting out of the cliff roughly halfway down from where she jumped into the water.

Her partner appeared to reach out to help her before she fell, but it was too late.

The impact mid-fall sent the woman spiralling before she slammed into the shallow water.

Mr Glanzig said: “If only travel insurance companies offered extra idiot protection.”

He later said that it took upwards of an hour to help the woman up the stairs, where an ambulance was waiting to take her to hospital.

Viewers of the viral video were shocked the woman attempted to jump, with many observing the water seemed far too shallow.

One follower said: “Something tells me her day tomorrow is going to be just as bad.” Another commented: “The ol hesitation. It will get you.”
