The professional hitman who gunned down Salford crimelord Paul Massey has been stabbed in the head and neck – the second time he has been attacked in prison. Mark Fellows, 42, nicknamed The Iceman, was stabbed in the head and the neck at the maximum security HMP Wakefield on Saturday.
The double murderer, who was left with a scar after a similar attack in 2019, was treated by prison medics, the Manchester Evening News reported.
Fellows was described in court four years ago as a “gun for hire” contracted to shoot 55-year-old Mr Massey dead on his own doorstep in Clifton, Salford in 2015 using an Uzi sub-machine gun.
Three years later, Fellows murdered killed Mr Massey’s friend, John ‘Scouse’ Kinsella, 53, who cycled up to him near the village of Rainhill in Merseyside as his target walked his dogs.
Fellows was handed a rare whole-life term in January 2019 after a 26-day trial at the end of which he was convicted of two counts of murder.
Jailing him, Mr Justice William Davis said: “So far as is known you had no personal animus in relation to Paul Massey.
“The only sensible conclusion is that you were a gun for hire prepared to kill whoever you were asked to kill by those who hired you.”
Fellows, who was himself shot in the leg two weeks after shooting Massey, was attacked with a razor blade inside HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire.
The latest attack happened at HMP Wakefield in Saturday as the country was celebrating the coronation of King Charles, reported the Manchester Evening News.
Fellows was stabbed in the back of the head and neck in the prison grounds.
His injuries were not described as serious and he was treated by prison medics. He was not taken to hospital, with an investigation into the attack is underway.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “We have a zero-tolerance approach to violence and will always take strong action against those who break these rules.”
