Hero tragically drowns in front of his family after saving two children

A hero who saved two boys from drowning in a waterfall died after being pulled under the water.

Mohananeethan Muruganantharajah, known as Mohan, was on holiday in the Brecon Beacons with his nieces when the tragedy occurred earlier this month.

The man, 27, raced into the water at Sgwd Y Pannwr waterfall after two children got into difficulty.

The qualified pilot managed to save the boys but then was dragged under the water and got stuck under a shelf.

Rescue teams were called but Mr Muruganantharajah couldn’t be saved and his body was recovered the following morning. A post-mortem was unable to give a cause of death.

South Wales Central area coroner Patricia Morgan adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.

Mr Muruganantharajah worked at an off-licence in Swansea but was originally from Sri Lanka.

A tribute from his badminton club in Swansea said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mohan.

“He touched the lives of so many and brought warmth and love to all who knew him with his never-ending smile.

“Thank you for your love, support, and compassion during this challenging time.”

His family are calling for more warning signs about the dangers the waterfall poses. Sgwd Y Pannwr is 40ft high and is popular with walkers.
