Hero doctors save man from heart attack while he was visiting his grandchild

A Florida man is lucky to be alive after suffering a heart attack while eating dinner with his new grandson — and he has a group of four young doctors to thank for their heroics.

Eddy Montero of Orlando was enjoying a dinner out with his family, where he got to meet his young grandson for the first time.

Suddenly, however, he began to feel dizzy and ultimately collapsed.

Montero would later find out that he’d suffered a heart attack — and were it not for the quick-thinking doctors that were finishing up their meal nearby, he might not have made it out alive.

Dr. Nicole Brenner, a physician at Florida Osceola HCA Hospital, and the three residents — Dr. Sonia Alicea, Dr. Amanda Rivera and Dr. Suhail Saad-Omer — all stepped in to save Montero.

“We quickly checked the pulse, and as soon as there was identification that there was no pulse and he was in cardiac arrest, CPR was immediately initiated,” Brenner told WESH.

Brenner, who is 35 weeks pregnant, also said that she was grateful to have her fellow residents around her, because of her impending birth.

“Dr. Saad-Omer called for emergency assistance and helped identify if there was any additional support in the area. Both Dr. Alicea and Dr. Rivera were able to initiate CPR and take over for me because it’s a little bit of a challenge,” she said.

For his part, Montero is grateful to be alive, and he called the doctors his “angels appearing before him.”

Montero’s family was also grateful to the doctors for saving his life, as he’d had a chance to meet one of his grandchildren for the first time.

He is now resting home safely.

“It just truly feels like we were meant to be there,” Brenner said.
