Prince Harry won’t be wearing his military uniform at King Charles’s Coronation on May 6, but the monarch may allow him to make a different army tribute.
Last week, the Duke of Sussex confirmed he would be attending the historic event alone, while Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, will remain at home in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
In fact, the Duke will be making a fleeting visit to London to see his father crowned King, and Harry will reportedly skip the events following the Coronation, including the musical extravaganza on May 7, to return home to be with his own family.
Now, many royal commentators and experts are speculating on what the prince will wear on the big day, and where he will fit within the two processions to and from Westminster Abbey during the crowning event.
Military Historian Dr Peter Johnston told True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat that while Harry won’t be donning his military uniform, despite serving two tours in Afghanistan, the prince may display a different tribute to his service.

Dr Johnston said: “I imagine Harry won’t wear uniform [at the Coronation]. Even as a veteran who did two tours in Afghanistan, he won’t wear uniform.
“I imagine he’ll wear his medals but quite where he fits within the procession and where he comes, I think will be probably reasonably similar to where he was at the funeral as well.”
During the funeral procession for the late Queen Elizabeth, Harry walked alongside his brother, Prince William. The pair then followed behind the Queen’s children, King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, who walked behind the coffin.
“He’ll be a part of it, but not necessarily, a [leading] part of it,” Dr Johnston continued.
Royal experts have also been discussing Prince Andrew’s position in the royal processions during the Coronation.
The Mirror’s Royal Editor Russell Myers indicates it will be “interesting” to see where Prince Andrew is placed, following his “very front and centre” position in the Royals journey to the Easter service at St. George’s Chapel a few weeks ago.
“It’s interesting to see where Andrew will be put. Because just a couple of weeks ago, we saw him very front and centre, walking with the [senior Royals], just behind the King and Queen Consort, next to Princess Anne on the journey to Easter service at St George’s Chapel,” he said.
“Is this his opportunity for a resurgence? It depends on which camp you’re talking to, because Andrew’s allies, who are certainly far and few between, may suggest that he is using this as an opportunity to maybe get back into the fold.
“But certainly the King’s allies would argue this isn’t an opportunity for him to do that.”
