Harry Kane boosting Tottenham's chances of signing 'exceptional' youngster in January

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou may have Harry Kane to thank if the Londoners end up signing French wonderkid Mathys Tel. Spurs are rumoured to be interested in the striker, who is finding it nigh on impossible to get into the Bayern Munich starting XI due to the England captain’s rampant form.

Although just a few months beyond his 18th birthday, Tel has shown the physicality and predatory instinct to be knocking on the door of most starting line-ups in world football.

The Rennes academy product is yet to start a single game in the Bundesliga or Champions League this campaign. But in his nine substitute appearances, Tel has bagged five goals at a staggering rate of one every 32 minutes.

His remarkable record is not enough to see him edge past Kane in the pecking order, however, as the 30-year-old has racked up eight goals in his first seven league matches for the Bavarian giants.

And if Kane continues to be an immovable object at the Allianz Arena, Tel may be wise to consider looking elsewhere. Tottenham reportedly showed an interest during the summer, with chairman Daniel Levy keen to include him in the big-money deal that sent Kane to Germany.

Bayern stood firm on their desire to keep the player, who many are tipping to become a future star, but they may struggle to hold him back if first-team minutes prove difficult to come by as long as Kane leads the line.

Tel is under contract at Bayern until 2027, but it may not take an astronomical fee to prise him away from the Bundesliga given that he cost only £17million last year.

Tottenham signed another promising young striker in Alejo Veliz during the summer, but Postecoglou has suggested that he needs more time to improve by handing him only two substitute appearances in the Premier League thus far.
