Harry and William 'relations have never been so bad' as Coronation RSVP looms

The relationship between siblings Prince Harry and Prince William “has never been so bad”, an insider claimed, as Buckingham Palace still awaits confirmation as to whether or not the Duke of Sussex and his family will show up to the Coronation. As the Coronation is less than a month away, all eyes have been turned towards Harry, and his wife Meghan Markle, to see whether the couple will respond to the invite to attend the historic event.

And Harry’s older brother William, the next in line for the throne, has been questioning why it has taken him so long to decide whether they are coming or not.

One source told the Daily Beast that the sourness between the brothers is at levels never experienced before, despite some well-documented fallings-out in their history.

Among these was the revelation that the pair were embroiled in a fight after a row over Harry’s relationship with Meghan erupted, the Duke of Sussex claimed in his book Spare.

The Prince of Wales was also incensed when Harry and Meghan opted to quit frontline royal duties in January 2020 in order to lead a private life away from the spotlight in the US.

According to the source William is “baffled by Harry not publicly saying that he is coming to the Coronation, especially because everyone thinks he will be there” and the deadline for responding to invites passed earlier this week.

The source continued: “Relations have never been this bad and it feels like Harry is just stringing it out to try and be difficult, frankly.”

But, on a positive note, the insider added that an announcement on whether the couple were attending the Coronation could come soon, and many inside Buckingham Palace think he will show up for the occasion.

The Coronation will see many of the world’s most influential figures join together to witness the historic moment King Charles III is officially crowned monarch.

Among the guests already set to attend the festivities include First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, and European Union President Ursula von der Leyen.

But the public’s main question is over Harry and Meghan’s attendance.

For Kinsey Schofield, host of the To Di For Daily podcast, it is becoming ever likely the couple will return to the UK, with both last in Britain for the funeral of Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

She belives the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “have taught us through their actions that they do not believe that they owe the public anything”, meaning silence over their invite was expected.

The commentator, speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, said similar stances could be seen when there was limited public engagement with the announcement of their first child Archie Harrison’s birth in 2019 – also on May 6.

Ms Schofield added: “Harry and Meghan have become increasingly private about their movements in and out of the UK due to security concerns.

“I imagine that Buckingham Palace has been informed that Harry and Meghan plan to attend the King’s Coronation with the request of discretion to ensure safe travel.”

Celebrations are expected to be marked across the UK and the Commonwealth when Charles takes to the throne, with billions around the globe due to tune in to coverage.
