Harry and Meghan 'embrace reconciliation' but 'never apply this message' to own families

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle only choose to “embrace reconciliation” when it does not involved patching up relations with their own estranged family members, according to a columnist.

Since stepping down as working royals in 2020 and moving to California with their children, the Sussexes have become distanced from Harry’s family, with their Netflix documentary series and Harry’s memoir Spare making a number of bombshell damaging claims against the monarchy.

In his book, Harry heavily criticised both his father King Charles and older brother Prince William, with their relationships now said to be at rock bottom.

Meanwhile Meghan is no longer in contact with her father Thomas Markle after he admitted to working with British paparazzi ahead of her wedding to Harry in 2018.

Writing in the Daily Mail, Jan Moir likened the situation between the Sussexes and the Firm to a “burnt-out bombsite”, with Harry dismissing any opportunity to make up with his family.

She wrote: “If there is a role for her [Meghan] as wifely appeaser to help heal the rift between her husband and his family, she has chosen to avoid that, too. As is her right.

“The Duke and Duchess keep embracing big themes such as reconciliation and family.

“They talk earnestly of healing, humanity and hope but, somehow, never apply these messages to themselves and their relationships with their families, which are as toxic as a giant hogweed swamp.”

Royal historian Dr Tessa Dunlop told the Mirror: “A rare Sussex double act is being saved for Germany where the Duchess will assist Harry with the closing ceremony.

“On this occasion, I suspect Meghan’s no-show in London says more about her antipathy towards Britain, than the couple’s relationship. We don’t deserve her, at least so she probably thinks.”

Meghan has not set foot on British soil for almost a year, since the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth last September.
