Haiti protestors raise Russian flag and beg Putin's military to save them from gangs

The AyiboPost, a Haitian news outlet based in Port-au-Prince, explained in 2022 that protestors have been seen holding placards with Vladimir Putin’s face on them alongside “pleas for Russian military help.”

The outlet added Haitians don’t necessarily mean what they say when expressing support for Russia.

But, they explained: “What these actions demonstrate is that Haitians have been paying attention to global events and are sending a clear signal to the United States who they feel have not treated their country fairly.”

Reuters pictured a Haitian demonstrator with a Russian flag outside the Canadian embassy in Port-au-Prince as recently as February 2024.
