Greek Air Force jet crashes and explodes into huge fireball in botched training mission


A Greek Air Force T-2 aircraft has crashed near Kalamata Airport in Greece.

The disaster occurred during a training mission just after 10am this morning.

The two-seater T-2 aircraft departed from the 120th Air Training Wing.

Shortly after it was involved in an unknown incident that caused an explosion and a crash.

An officer was reportedly on board the plane and his fate has not been released.

There are no reports of a person being seen evacuating the plane by parachute.

The T-2 Buckeye is the only training jet of the Air Force, and with it the Ikari and the new Second Lieutenants complete their training.

The T-2E can carry up to 3500 lb of ordnance on 6 wing carriers including machine gun and rocket pods. It can be used for training with a weapon load, but also take on a combat role if required.

It has a tricolor variation of green, brown and white.
