Graham Potter could do Chelsea a favour with four players as ex-boss 'waits' for offer

Graham Potter could come to the rescue of Chelsea if he is appointed as the new Napoli manager. According to The Sun, the ex-Blues boss is waiting for the Serie A outfit to make an official move to acquire his services as he looks to return to management. Potter will be keen to make his mark on the Napoli squad upon his arrival, and he could look to reunite with several of Chelsea’s fringe players at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Express Sport takes a look at four of them who he could try to sign if he takes over in Naples…

Ian Maatsen

With the versatile full-back reluctant to extend his contract with the Blues, Ian Maatsen could quickly become a transfer target for Napoli. The 21-year-old impressed in pre-season but has been limited to just 84 minutes of Premier League football so far under Mauricio Pochettino, with top clubs around Europe monitoring the ex-Burnley loanees situation closely in the hope of landing themselves a bargain.

Trevoh Chalobah

Chelsea and Trevoh Chalobah are finally on the same page, with the defender expected to leave the club in January. The 24-year-old featured frequently whilst Potter was in the Stamford Bridge dugout and it would be no surprise if the former Brighton manager pushes for a reunion given that Napoli are short of defensive depth. Chalobah’s progress was accelerated by the 48-year-old and playing under a manager who has faith in his ability can help him get his career back on track after a tricky 12 months.

Noni Madueke

A loan move for Noni Madueke should not be ruled out in the near future given that injuries and underwhelming cameos have limited the winger to just 50 minutes in the league so far this season. Potter was keen to sign the ex-PSV star whilst Chelsea boss, having also identified him as a potential target at Brighton. It could be a good thing for Madueke to leave the Blues to play regularly elsewhere for a while.
