Ryan McGeachie, 30, has been called a “hero” after he saved a baby who had been thrown from a building as it filled with smoke. Ryan, who works as a fishmonger, said he felt “shook up” by the incident but was thankful the child was okay.
McGeachie was walking on Harley Street in Ibrox, Glasgow, on January 6, when he saw a woman screaming from a window as the building filled with smoke.
He said he heard the woman shouting “fire” as she dangled a baby out of a window.
Speaking to Glasgow Live, the 30-year-old said: “I was walking back from the Co-Op, which is just round the corner from me.
“There was a woman screaming out the window. I didn’t understand what was happening at first.”
McGeachie immediately leapt into action and said he “sprinted to the window” and was there to catch the baby.
He said: “I wasn’t thinking anything apart from get the child, so I grabbed the child.
“It was very spur of the moment. I was relieved when I caught her. I put her down and made sure she was ok.
Following the incident, he said “as I caught her, a few other people ran in behind me to see to the woman”.
McGeachie added: “I just made sure the baby was ok. Then an older woman came over and put her jacket around her.”

The police have said their current inquiry into what caused the fire is still ongoing.
A 44-year-old woman was taken to hospital in relation to the incident but her condition is currently unknown.
At the scene, a man and a woman were both treated for smoke inhalation.
A spokesperson from Police Scotland said on the incident: “We received a report of a fire at a property on Harley Street, Glasgow, around 4.15pm on Friday, January 6, 2023.
“Emergency services attended and one woman has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.”
