Girlfriend in stitches as Polish boyfriend tries to pronounce UK county names

A woman has been left in stitches after her Polish boyfriend tried to pronounce the names of UK towns and counties.

Niko and Leanne are TikTok stars who regularly make videos of one of them trying to pronounce words in the other’s native language.

Their TikTok account (@nicholas_zyglinski) has more than 1.5million followers and a total of 60.2million likes on all videos.

Leanne gave Niko some UK place names, with hilarious results. The video was titled: “Polish boyfriend pronounces British town names”.

He pronounced Derby (pronounced ‘dah-bee’) more like ‘der-bey’, Reading (‘red-ing’) like ‘reed-ing’, Peterborough (‘pee-tuh-bruh) like ‘pee-tuh-brof’ and Loughborough (‘luhf-buh-ruh’) ‘lowf-buh–rof’.

Some he tried are commonly mispronounced by those not from the UK, such as saying Leicester (‘leh-stuh’) like ‘lie-caster’, Gloucester (‘glo-stuh’) like ‘glow-chester’, Worcester (‘wu-stuh’) like ‘war-caster’

After he attempted each place name, Leanne would give him the correct pronunciation. Niko pronounced Doncaster, Nottingham and Luton correctly.

The video got 548,000 views and almost 6,500 likes. Many of the comments commended Niko on his pronunciation.

One user said: “You’re doing well mate, I couldn’t begin to speak another language.” Another agreed saying: “How they are written versus how you say them make no sense at all.”

Others suggested that Leanne try pronouncing Polish town names. One said: “I think it should be her turn to pronounce a town like Szczecin, Rzeszów etc.”

Niko and Leanne have made similar videos before such as Leanne trying to pronounce Polish names and the pair trying both British and Polish snacks.
