A family has been left “devastated” after the death of a 14-year-old girl in a suspected drug incident.
Police Scotland were called to a property in Inverkeithing on September 18 at around 2.45am to reports of a girl who had “taken unwell”.
Carly Kilpatrick was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Her family said in a tribute: “We are devastated by the loss of Carly and the circumstances surrounding her death.
“Carly was a loving daughter, sister, auntie and friend.
“She was a keen footballer and played for many local teams and will be deeply missed by us all.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are continuing. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal (public prosecution office).”
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with a drugs offence in connection with the incident. He has been released pending further enquiries.
Fife Council’s education manager Karen Lees called the Inverkeithing High School pupil’s death “tragic and untimely”.
She added: “We are supporting the school community and in particular any pupils who knew this young person, providing space, time and help to those who might be impacted by this terrible event.”
Carly’s family have thanked people for their support but have asked for privacy while they grieve.
