Girl, 15, tragically dies after collision with bus in Birmingham


A 15-year-old girl has tragically died after being bit by a bus in Birmingham. The victim was struck by a National Express West Midlands bus just before 15.00GMT on Saturday on Sheaf Lane, Sheldon. Ambulance and fire crews rushed to the scene along with the police. She was then transferred to hospital where she died of her injuries.

Tributes have been paid to the teenager on Sheaf Lane with bouquets of flowers and love hearts left by members of the public.

West Midlands police said the bus driver was currently helping them with their enquiries.

PC Gail Arnold, a spokeswoman for the police force, said: “A young girl has tragically died and we’ll be doing all we can to support her family during this deeply distressing time.”

Police have appealed to the public to come forward and contact them if they have any information on the accident.

“We’re working to establish the circumstances behind the collision and we’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, and especially anyone with dashcam footage,” PC Arnold added.

National Express West Midlands confirmed that one of their buses and drives were involved in the incident.

“Emergency services attended the scene and we will continue to give the police every assistance as they continue their investigation into what happened.”
