Ghislaine Maxwell earned the respect of fellow inmates at a jail in New York because she “didn’t crack” after being placed “in the worst part”.
According to inmates, she refused to sell out to federal authorities at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn – which has held high-profile characters such as R. Kelly and Martin Shkreli over the years.
Daryl Campbell, a rapper and podcaster currently behind bars at the facility on 29th Street, told The New York Post: “Ghislaine Maxwell, she’s highly respected because she didn’t crack, and they had her in the worst part of the jail.”
During her two years at MDC, the 61-year-old British socialite complained about restroom conditions and the food.
Campbell said: “The part they had her in is a place where people literally crack. They cop out or they start cooperating with the government as soon as they get there.”

Maxwell was eventually transferred to low-security FCI Tallahassee in July 2022, where she is serving a 20-year sentence after being convicted of grooming and trafficking underage girls for financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Various reports have emerged detailing Maxwell’s time inside.
In July, a report in the Daily Mail claimed she was encountering difficulties with a cellmate who hung underwear and socks to dry over the bunk bed.
The cellmate also allegedly invited their prison partner up to the top bunk to have sex.
In February, she appealed her sex-trafficking conviction, claiming prosecutors and the judge made “fatal” errors during her trial.
Maxwell’s lawyers had unsuccessfully argued previously that she became a scapegoat for prosecutors desperate for someone to blame after Epstein committed suicide in a federal prison cell in August 2019.
