Getafe boss speaks out on Mason Greenwood after Man Utd 'receive £40m offer'

Getafe manager Jose Bordalas has heaped praise onto Mason Greenwood amid reports his club is planning to complete a £40million deal in January for the Englishman. Greenwood joined Getafe on loan in the summer following a last-gasp change of plans over his reintegration at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old has scored five goals and laid on four assists in 15 appearances for Getafe this season and has quickly established himself as a regular starter at the Estadio Coliseum. Bordalas has been extremely impressed by Greenwood, particularly his patience.

“Greenwood is a different player, with a lot of talent but in this football talent is not the main thing. It takes more work than talent. When he is at 100% we will be able to check his real level but he has the conditions to play in any major,” he said.

“[He’s fitted in the team due to] a lot of patience, with a lot of calm, aware that he had been unemployed for a long time without playing and practically without training. But we trusted because of the talent, because of the level that he has had.

“Being able to opt for a player of this level at Getafe is complicated, almost impossible. And well, given the situation, we bet on him. We are happy and content because we have a great player, he is a good boy, he has fitted in really well and he just needs to learn a little more Spanish.”

According to the Sun, Getafe have informed Manchester United that they are willing to make the deal permanent in January. The La Liga outfit are reportedly prepared to fork out as much as £40million for the youngster – which would smash their all-time transfer record.

But the report adds that United want to keep Greenwood on loan for now. The Red Devils may be able to strike up a better deal in the summer with AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid all monitoring his progress.

Greenwood is said to have “really enjoyed” living in Spain and has made some “good friends” at Getafe. His partner Harriet Robson, whom he has a child with, has also been welcomed in by the Spanish WAGS and the couple like being able to go out in Madrid “without feeling like everyone is watching them.”
