George and Amal Clooney turn out to support King Charles's charity event

George and Amal Clooney, whose friendship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is reportedly been getting closer, have turned out in support of King Charles.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex — who made some shocking allegations about the Royal Family after stepping down from official duties with “The Firm” — don’t appear any closer to patching things up. But Hollywood actor Clooney, 62, and his wife, 45, seem to have taken a neutral stance after appearing at the Prince’s Trust and TKMaxx & Homesense Awards 2023 in central London yesterday.

The ceremony rewards the achievements of young people across the UK who have completed the charity’s programmes. The Clooneys attended the 2018 wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, despite it being rumoured that they did not know the royal couple that well at the time.

Princess Diana’s former flatmate Carolyn Bartholomew, who had sat next to the Clooneys, was said to have asked how they knew Harry and Meghan, to which they replied: “We don’t.”

The actor is reported to have danced with both Meghan and Kate, Princess of Wales, at a wedding after-party at Frogmore House.

Since then the Clooneys and Sussexes have apparently become closer and Amal was even included in a small group of friends at the Duchess’s baby shower in New York in 2019.

In the biography Finding Freedom, written about the duke and duchess, it was claimed that the Clooneys had played host to Harry and Meghan on at least two occasions at their UK home in Sonning, Oxfordshire.

The book said the royal pair took their dogs along and that the Clooneys often took guests down to the lake. The Clooneys reportedly invited the Sussexes to Lake Como shortly after their wedding and they were flown there on George’s private jet.

Finding Freedom co-author Omid Scobie also revealed in an interview with Good Morning America that Harry and George had bonded over their love of motorcycles and had also played basketball together.

The Mirror yesterday reported that George, asked by the Daily Mail in 2019 how he knew the couple, gave a vague reply, saying: “I’ve just known them.”

He said: “We live not too far from one another and we have dinners and stuff and we’re friends with them for all the reasons that you’re friends with anybody.

“They’re just really nice, fun, kind people, they’re a very loving couple, and they’re going to be great parents.”
