FTSE 100 plummets to three month low as terrified markets prepare for Hunt’s new Budget


The FTSE 100 has plummted to a three month low ahead of Chancellor Jeremy Hunt’s Spring Budget. The index at 10.45am was down 167.39 at 7469.72.

Stocks in London fell today (March 15) as Prudential touched the bottom of the FTSE 100 index following its annual results and investors waited for the Spring Budget.

In early trading, the FTSE 100 lost 0.6 percent to 7,591.73. Losses have been felt across Europe with the DAX in Frankfurt retreating 0.3 percent to 15,188.30 while the CAC 40 in Paris declined 0.7 percent to 7,094.06.

On Wall Street, the future for the benchmark S&P 500 index was up less than 0.1 percent. That for the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.2 percent.

The S&P 500 rose 1.7 percent on Tuesday while the Dow gained 1.1 percent. The Nasdaq composite added 2.1 percent.
