Frenzied dogs 'savage' woman in street leaving 'blood everywhere' in sickening attack

A pair of white dogs were “red with blood” after a woman was “savaged” in Liverpool in the early hours of the morning, an eyewitness to the shocking attack has claimed. Kevin Cannon described the terrifying incident as “one of those things you only ever read about or see on the TV”.

Mr Cannon said he had seen the incident in Ishmay Street, which involved two dogs believed to be Staffordshire bull terriers.while driving home just after 1am.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “I saw the two women in the street and I think there had been a fight.

“One of the women was covered in blood and the other woman was screaming ‘help her'”

He added: “The dogs were savaging the woman. I have never witnessed anything like it. One of them had her leggings in its mouth and the other had ripped off her top.

“There was blood everywhere and she had injuries to her face and neck. She was in a really bad way. The dogs were in a frenzy. They were white Staffies but were red with blood.”

Mr Cannon, 60, who said he called the emergency services himself, honked his horn in an attempt to scare the dogs away – but one ran towards him and he got back in his vehicle.

He added: “When I saw it running over I was shaking. My instant reaction was to help but I saw the dogs were in a frenzy.

“I’m a single parent – if I got injured and had to go to hospital my daughter would be on her own.

“I’m an animal lover and know the staffies’ instincts are to protect.”

Mr Cannon estimated a total of 12 police vehicles had attended, with other witnesses reporting seeing armed officers plus four ambulances.

He added: “When the police came they rammed one of the dogs with their car and the other dog ran away in the direction of City Road.

“The police helicopter was up looking for the other dog.

“It’s one of those things you read about or see on TV. To see it was surreal. It’s sickening to have seen it. It was horrendous.”
