Lampard has made it no secret that he is keen to return to management when the time is right, and he is unlikely to be short of suitors as time goes on given that he led Derby County to the Championship play-offs in tricky circumstances, guided Everton to safety and showed promise at Chelsea.

He was recently spotted watching Gareth Southgate take charge of England’s training sessions ahead of the Three Lions’ friendlies against Brazil and Belgium last month, and Lampard remains a familiar face at stadiums up and down the country.
