Former SNP leadership candidate defects to Alba party bringing majority to 10

Former SNP leadership candidate Ash Regan has defected to Alex Salmond’s Alba party. The MSP, 49, said she decided to move over after ‘incresing disillusionment’ with the SNP’s leadership.

She also cited the party’s ‘wavering commitment’ to Scottish independence as a reason for her leaving the party.

Ms Regan was elected as the MSP for Edinburgh Eastern at the election, but since leaving, she has taken the SNP’s majority down to 10 in the Scottish Government.

She becomes the Alba Party’s first representative at Holyrood.
