Ford Kansas City plant alert sees Special Tactics and Response Team sent in

A Special Tactics and Response Team has reportedly been sent into the Ford Kansas City plant assembly plant in Claycomo, Missouri.

Initial reports suggested it was an ‘active shooter’ situation. However, Sheriffs have since said that no injuries have been reported.

Law enforcement authorities have confirmed they are “investigating a possible threat” at the factory, on the US 69 Highway. The highway had been shut down whilst the incident is ongoing.

Local news channel KCTV5 reports that it has received numerous calls from concerned employees.  They say a man – who claimed to be armed with explosives, a rifle, and a handgun – had barricaded himself in a bathroom.

A Special Tactics and Response Team has reportedly entered the building and is searching for the man.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sarah Boyd told media near the scene that at about 5:20 pm local time, Ford’s Safety and Risk Management Team received a call from a man who claimed to be armed and barricaded in a bathroom.

The man claimed to be a disgruntled employee – but the first name he gave did not match anyone who works in that department. He did, however, have the name of a supervisor who worked there. Boyd said the sheriff’s office has not been able to establish contact with the man since that initial call.

She said sheriffs are treating the threat as if it is real until they can prove otherwise. Production has been shut down at the plant for the night and the building has been evacuated.
