Football fan's fury as £450 Manchester United VIP food 'tasted like dog meat'

A football fan who paid £450 for a “VIP experience” at Old Trafford has criticised the “disgraceful” meal he received as part of the club’s top hospitality package.

The man wanted to treat himself to the experience at Manchester United’s game against Bayern Munich on Tuesday (December 12). After what he said was a tough year, the man, who has not been named, thought it would be an “ideal” thing to do as a dedicated Red.

When he was served food as part of the experience, the man was disappointed at a dish he described as resembling “dog meat on microwave curry”.

He told the Manchester Evening News the experience was “very poor and unacceptable”, adding he returned home afterwards “feeling worse”.

The disgruntled fan said: “It was a disgrace to be fair. Not at all what I was expecting. For a premium price and a once in a lifetime experience it’s very, very poor and unacceptable.”

Manchester United’s Evolution Suite experience promises a three course a-la-carte meal and boasts of an atmosphere “matched beautifully by the standards of service, food and wine on offer”.

But the fan said he was shocked by the standard given the hefty price tag, adding £450 is “a fair chunk” to have spent so close to Christmas. He said: “I just wanted to treat myself and have a break. Just time for myself. As a lifelong Red I thought [it would be] ideal.”

The fan said he shouldn’t have bothered, but welcomed the fact he could down unlimited, free Heineken and vodka and Red Bull, telling the same publication he had to have a good few drinks in order to get his money’s worth. Manchester United has been approached for comment.
