Florida granny scoops $2million jackpot after paying for daughter's cancer treatment

A mother from Florida who used her life savings to pay for her daughter’s breast cancer treatment has won $2 million (£1.62m) on a lottery scratch card.

Geraldine Gimblet, who lives in the city of Lakeland, east of Tampa, overcame odds of 3,921,270-1 to scoop the massive bounty after buying the ‘Bonus Cashword’ card from her local gas station.

It proved to be the best $10 Geraldine had ever spent, and as fortune would have it, she bought the last ticket in the store, although she was nearly out of luck.

“At first, the gas station clerk thought there were no tickets left,” she explained.

“But I asked him to double check because I like the crossword games the best.

“He found the last one!”

Geraldine has recently finished paying for her daughter’s treatment, having had to use her life savings in order to fund her care. And the grateful sibling couldn’t be happier for her mother.

“The day before my mom bought this ticket, I rang the bell and walked out of the hospital after completing my last treatment for breast cancer,” said her emotional daughter.

“My mom had taken out her life savings to take care of me when I was sick. I’m just so happy for her!”

Geraldine, who claimed her winnings as a one-time lump-sum payment of $1,645,000, bought her golden ticket at Pipkin Road Beverage Castle in Lakeland.

That is also great news for the retailer as they will also pocket a cool $2,000 in commission.
