Five photos which show Mike Tindall is the Royal Family's secret weapon

Mike Tindall is a beloved member of the Royal Family and he’s been previously dubbed the Firm’s “secret weapon” after his appearances at key events throughout the years.

The former England rugby star is married to Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall and they share three children, Mia, nine, Lena, five, and Lucas, two. The royal shares a sweet relationship with his in-laws that he’s showcased on multiple occasions.

Most recently, Mike was seen hugging Prince George as they walked out of the church service at St Mary Magdelene on Christmas Day 2023.

Zara Tindall’s husband was pictured wrapping his arm around the 10-year-old as he appeared to kiss him on the forehead and pull him in closely.

Mike reportedly has a blossoming bond with the heir to the throne, Prince William, as the two have been close friends for a while. The ex-rugby star even revealed his nickname for the Prince of Wales when he appeared on Rob Burrow’s podcast last month.

He said: “For the Prince of Wales, he is known as ‘One-Pint Willy’. He is known to me as ‘One-Pint Willy’ because he’s not the best of drinkers.

“Coming from a sport where it’s built on the social aspect and a couple of beers being sunk quite often. So, that is one that I will definitely give away for the Prince of Wales, One-Pint Willy, there you go.” Mike also shares a special relationship with Princess Kate as he once revealed her “competitive side”.

Last year, he appeared on the Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast along with William and Kate, where he shared a little about Kate’s personality behind the scenes.

He said: “I’m not going to say you’re uber competitive,” before pausing to nod indicating that she really was. Princess Kate replied: “I’m not competitive at all.” Mike added: “I’ve seen her play beer pong!”

The father of three has a very good relationship with all of Prince William and Princess Kate’s children – and that was showcased during the Platinum Pageant in 2022 where he appeared to step in and entertain Prince Louis.

During an episode of The Good, The Bad and the Rugby podcast Mike was asked about the viral pictures with Louis. His fellow host James Haskell joked that Mike was “keeping the future king’s children in line, the carer.”

Co-host Alex Payne asked: “What were you actually doing at that point, with the old [pointing at eyes gesture]?”

Mike said: “I actually can’t remember, I can’t remember what he was doing,” Mike responded. “He’s such a good character he is, Louis.”

Zara’s husband also shares a close bond with his mother-in-law, Princess Anne. The pair can often be seen laughing together and they also have similar interests as they are both sports fans and love rugby.
