Five migants die in Channel with 'lifeless bodies' in water hours after Rwanda bill passes

‘At least’ five migrants have died after trying to cross the English Channel in the early hours of this morning. An emergency rescue operation was launched by the French coastguard before “lifeless bodies” were found in the water.

French police are now investigating after hundreds set off from Boulogne sur Mer on Tuesday morning, with five people confirmed dead.

Many others have been taken to a beach at Wimereux. French newspaper La Voix Du Nord said emergency workers rescued the father of a four-year-old girl, who was in tears on the beach.

The tragedy comes just hours after Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda Bill was passed in Parliament – designed to deter migrants from making the perilous journey.
