First picture of couple found dead after Mercedes floods in Liverpool street


A Merseyside couple found dead in their submerged car have been named locally and pictured for the first time.

Locals have named Philip and Elaine Marco as the two found dead in their black Mercedes after it drove into deep floodwaters in Mossley Hill last weekend.

Police were called to the Queens Drive area following reports of a submerged car at around 9.20pm on Sunday, August 27.

They were alerted to safety concerns of a man and woman, with the couple found trapped inside.

The two were taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead, and family and friends of Mr and Mrs Marco have delivered tributes.

The Liverpool Echo has reported several messages messages sent by loved ones following news of their deaths.

Moria Berry King said: “This is awful. Those poor people must have been so scared, god bless them.

“Deepest condolences to their families and friends. Rest in Peace.”

Debbie Mills said: “Terribly, terribly sad reading this, it’s been flooding for years.

“Absolutely horrific for the two people who have sadly lost their lives, just awful.”

Katy Koo said: “So sad. This should never have happened – it has been a known spot for flooding for years. RIP.”
