Fergie shares unusual way she bonded with her granddaughter Sienna in 'very sweet moment'

Sarah Ferguson, affectionately known as Fergie, shared the unusual way she bonded with her only granddaughter Sienna, describing the moment as “very sweet”.

Fergie, who had children Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie with her ex-husband Prince Andrew, has enjoyed a monumental week, as she became a grandmother for the third time.

Her youngest daughter Eugenie announced earlier this week that her son Ernest had been welcomed to the world, joining Fergie’s other grandchildren August and Sienna in the York household.

The announcement came days after her eldest daughter Beatrice – who is mother to Sienna – attended the wedding of Hussein, Crown Prince of Jordan.

While there, Beatrice was seen wearing the iconic tiara the late Queen Elizabeth II gifted her then-daughter-in-law Fergie back in the Eighties, for her to wear on her wedding day to Andrew.

Reflecting on a landmark week, Fergie also revealed a beautiful insight into her relationship with Sienna, who stayed with her while Beatrice and her husband Edo were away in Jordan for the wedding.

Speaking on the Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah podcast, Fergie said: “I was so deeply honoured she was wearing my tiara which was a beautiful gift, and then Eugenie having baby Ernest – it’s been an extraordinary week in all honesty.

“And then the most exciting thing is that Sienna is very, very strong. She’s 18 months, and Wolfie her brother is seven so she is really strong! She has to be!”

“Wolfie says, ‘Cmon Sienna,’ and off they go. They’re very close and have a great relationship, and so while Beatrice was away in Jordan, I was able to have Sienna, to play and stay with me.”

She continued: “And so the last couple of days I have managed to really have a bond…and guess what my bond is? I give her a little sip of tea out of my teacup!

“So now I give her a tiny little bit of tea… it’s a special treat for her… it was a very sweet moment actually.”

Eugenie shared the news on Instagram on Monday that Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank had been born on May 30, weighing 7lb 1oz.

In a statement, she said that he had been “named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald”.

She added: “Augie is loving being a big brother already.”

Buckingham Palace also confirmed Ernest’s arrival, noting: “Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank.”

Ernest’s name was a tribute to his late grandfather George – Jack’s dad – who died in 2021.

He is also named after Fergie’s father Major Ronald Ferguson.
