Nigel Farage says the King’s cancer statement raises “more questions than answers” amid fears speculation about the monarch’s condition will be rife.
The GB News presenter and politician says newspapers will be “wall-to-wall” with speculation after King Charles revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer.
He says people will be expecting Buckingham Palace to come forward with more information in the not-so-distant future.
Farage was speaking after the Palace revealed King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer after undergoing diagnostic tests following his prostate surgery.
Farage said: “This statement raises more questions than it gives answers.
“I would expect starting tomorrow that our newspapers will be wall-to-wall in terms of the speculation.
“I expect Buckingham Palace will have to give us more details in the coming days.”
Farage believes the King’s condition could be “quite a serious situation”, pointing to the news Prince Harry will be returning to London from the United States.
He added: “I’ve no doubt this is quite a serious situation.
“I think the problem for Buckingham Palace and the King, other than the personal trial the King is about to go through, is this.
“The statement says, ‘His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation.
“I think that is just not the case. Far from preventing speculation, I expect over the course of the next days and weeks, there will be questions as to what the nature of the cancer is.”
Farage also says there will be speculation about what stage the King’s cancer is at, and highlighted the statement saying “treatment” instead of radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
Announcing the King’s condition, the Palace said: “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.
“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.
“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.
“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
