Fight fans fear Logan Paul will become the latest athlete to fall victim to the “Drake curse” after the rapper revealed he has an £700,000 bet on the YouTuber to beat Dillon Danis. At odds of 1.59, the Grammy Award-winning artist will earn over £1million if Paul wins by knockout in the crossover boxing match this weekend.
Drake is no stranger to betting on boxing, particularly these crossover fights. In February, he wagered £329,000 on Logan’s brother, Jake, to knock out Tommy Fury, who fights KSI on this weekend’s card.
However, Fury won by split decision, and that was the last Drake saw of his six-figure sum. But, undeterred, he is back for more. Again retaining his allegiances to the Paul family, he has backed the elder brother, Logan.
“Never bet against personal vendetta and settling scores,” Drake shared on Instagram, tagging Paul. The post features a screenshot of his betting slip.
In the comments, Conor McGregor has made his prediction clear, replying: “Dillon all day!” Danis is a long-time training partner of the former two-weight UFC champion.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, Paul’s opponent reposted Drake’s bet and responded: “850 on my head is disrespect.” Danis also shared a past photo of himself posing alongside the rapper.
Now, he will hope to prove Drake wrong and reinforce the “curse” that seemingly follows the Canadian. He is renowned for losing huge sums staked on fights.
Last month, he was due a £758,000 payday after backing Israel Adesanya to retain his UFC middleweight title and win by knockout. However, the champion was surprisingly beaten for just the third time in his career by the challenger Sean Strickland via unanimous decision at UFC 293.
Drake has a poor track record of picking the winner in combat sports. Last March, he lost a mammoth sum after backing Jorge Masvidal to beat Colby Covington. Undeterred, he went even bigger by staking £453,000 on Justin Gaethje to defeat Charles Oliveira. That luck did seem to have turned somewhat this year, though.
Drake pocketed $2.7 million from Adesanya’s previous fight when he KO’d Alex Pereira in April’s rematch. The musician regularly backs the New Zealander, win or lose, doing so last summer against Jared Cannonier and taking home £853,000.
