Family's heartbreak as son took his own life hours before mum found dead in hotel room

An inquest has heard the harrowing details of a triple tragedy after 44-year-old Gemma Bond took her own life the day after her son did the same, following the news of his friend’s death.

Gemma’s son Ben Bond was badly affected by the death of his friend Jack Gilbert who died suddenly at home on May 31.

He was found in his bedroom, with a coroner previously ruling his death was unintentional.

A few weeks later on June 18, a huge police search was launched following Ben’s disappearance from his home.

He was sadly found in Woodland six days later on June 24, The Sun reports.

The inquest was told that Gemma then took her own life at the International Hotel the day after.

Gemma’s mum, Dorothy Bond, said: “She was a great mum, a good daughter and totally devoted to Ben.

“If Ben was still here, Gemma would still be here too. It’s unbelievable.”

Recording a conclusion of suicide for Gemma’s death, Shropshire senior coroner John Ellery said: “It’s a tragic link.

“It all traces back to Jack’s death and the effect it had on Ben.

“Sadly there is a link between the three deaths of Jack, Ben and Gemma.”
