Despite being warned by locals a family has caused outrage by driving a 4×4 onto a beach to set up camp.
Locals warned the family that pitching a tent on the beach of a popular and protected UK beauty spot was a very bad idea.
However, the group dismissed the advice and pitched a safari-style tent with an accompanying picnic table on Northton Beach in Scotland.
The campers pitched next to the shore, apparently enjoying their close proximity to nature and ocean views, a photograph showed.
A post on social media showed locals venting their anger at the group, claiming they had ignored signs not to drive onto the beach which is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, reports The Mirror.
Photos revealing the campers apparently showing no intention of moving when warned about the dangers of camping close to the lapping waves were shared on the Isle of Harris Facebook Group by Peter Harris.
Peter wrote: “When asked why they said we are not doing anything wrong and there is no sign saying no camping.”
Many of the thousands that responded angrily to the post showed fury that they had allegedly breached beach rules with some joking about the family’s car and possessions being swept away by the tide.
Others were more concerned for the welfare of the younger members of the family.
One said: “I looked at all the comments on Facebook, some funny etc but it seems they have kids sleeping in the tent as well! I am disgusted by them and hope they go home soon.”
The untouched area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code (SOAC) suggests that driving a car onto the beach means the stay wouldn’t be classed as wild camping.
