F1 LIVE: Lewis Hamilton the 'wrong one' for Ferrari as Red Bull pick Verstappen successor

Lewis Hamilton will be desperate to put his recent struggles behind him when he returns to the track at this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix. The 39-year-old has endured his worst start to a season in recent memory, with Mercedes still lacking pace in comparison to their Constructors’ Championship rivals.

Hamilton will leave Mercedes to join Ferrari at the end of the season, having signed a multi-year deal to partner Charles Leclerc from next year onwards. He will replace Carlos Sainz, who has arguably been one of F1’s best performers in 2024 and has been linked with a move to Mercedes in what would essentially be a straight swap with Hamilton.

Max Verstappen has also been tipped to join the Silver Arrows in a surprise development due to the internal turmoil at Red Bull this season. However, it seems another team could look to snatch the Dutchman for themselves, with Lawrence Stroll having reportedly drawn up an ambitious plan to lure him to Aston Martin.
