F1 LIVE: Lewis Hamilton makes list of excuses as chief refuses to listen to Max Verstappen

Lewis Hamilton was no match for Max Verstappen in this morning’s Chinese Grand Prix sprint as the Dutchman surged to victory at the Brit’s expense. Hamilton passed Lando Norris at the first corner to move into the lead but was powerless to resist the pace of Verstappen, who fought back from fourth on the grid to take the chequered flag.

Sergio Perez rounded off the podium in third place after Fernando Alonso retired following a clash with Carlos Sainz. The Ferrari driver was able to finish but had to settle for fifth after being passed by Charles Leclerc, while Norris slipped from pole to sixth in a session to forget for McLaren.

Hamilton was delighted with his second-placed finish despite being unable to keep Verstappen behind, saying: “At the end of the day, being on the front row, I don’t remember having that view for a long time. It feels like a really long time. I don’t know if we’ve had it in the last couple of years.”
