F1 LIVE: Lewis Hamilton 'done' with Mercedes as Max Verstappen brutally mocked by rivals

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen each had a weekend to forget at the Australian Grand Prix, with both drivers retiring from the race due to mechanical issues. Carlos Sainz ended up taking the chequered flag in Melbourne ahead of Charles Leclerc, who crossed the line in second place to wrap up an impressive Ferrari one-two.

Verstappen started from pole but was forced to call it a day after just a few laps when his brakes caught fire, ending his hopes of winning a 10th straight race. Hamilton went on to suffer a mechanical problem of his own, grinding to a halt at the edge of the circuit due to an engine failure.

The Mercedes ace later admitted that it has been the ‘worst start’ to a season he has ever had, adding: “It’s tough on the spirit for everyone in the team when so much work has been going on over the winter. You come in excited, driven and motivated, with the mindset you’re going to be fighting for wins, then that’s not the case.”
