F1 LIVE: Ex-Red Bull star disappointed by Verstappen comments as Horner gets reality check

Former F1 star Christijan Albers has warned Christian Horner that Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko, has been the main source of ‘success’ in terms of recruiting the best drivers for the team.

Horner and Marko are believed to have fallen out during early-season turbulence that saw both of them fear for their futures.

Marko even suggested he could be suspended before Max Verstappen chimed in and made it clear that he would leave if his mentor was forced out.

Now, Albers has given Horner a sobering reminder of how important Marko is to Red Bull, and consequently how important it is to mend the relationship.

“If you start looking very realistically, which drivers did [Horner] put in the car and which drivers did Dr Marko put in the car?” he told De Telegraaf. “Looking at success, with all due respect, all success comes from Marko.

“So if you really start looking at who has a view on talent, there is absolutely no debate on that. That’s just Dr Marko, who has always made the right choices.”
