Express readers call for hard working royals to get a proper summer break

The Royal Family are set to continue Queen Elizabeth II’s summer tradition of gathering at the Balmoral estate in Scotland but King Charles is expected to keep his break much shorter. The grounds and exhibitions on display in the Aberdeenshire estate will remain open to the public until mid-August, limiting its availability for the royals.

The late Queen would typically stay in Scotland until October, but other responsibilities and engagements mean the new monarch may need to cut this short. A royal source said: “We expect the family will be together there in the summer. But diaries are still being sorted.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales are expected to have a break from their royal duties during the school summer holidays to spend time with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Yet Express.co.uk readers have called for all working royals to have a proper summer recess. In a set of polls that ran from 7am on Saturday, June 24, to 2.30pm on Tuesday, June 27, readers were asked: “Should members of the Royal Family get a summer holiday?”

A total of 4,105 people responded with 85 percent (3,483 people) answering “yes” they should. While eight percent (328 people) said “no” and seven percent (294 people) said they did not know.

Throughout the year, the Royal Family attend numerous events and engagements to showcase the monarchy, support charitable causes and carry out official duties.

Last year, Princess Anne was the busiest member of the Firm, carrying out 214 engagements, and Express.co.uk readers agree that she deserves to be known as the hardest-working.

Overall, 4,244 votes were cast when Express.co.uk asked: “Who is the hardest-working royal?” with the Princess Royal winning by a landslide with 60 percent (2,547 people).

The Princess of Wales came in second securing nine percent (364 people) of the vote, closely followed by Prince Edward and the King who each received eight percent with 357 and 325 votes respectively.

William was voted as the hardest working by six percent of readers (270 people) while Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh received two percent (96 people) and Queen Camilla just 15 votes.

A further five percent (197 people) said they did not know, while two percent (73 people) answered “other”.
