Explosive moment retreating Russian tank convoy in Ukraine is rocked by artillery fire

Ukraine targeted a convoy of Russian tanks with footage appearing to show massive explosions hitting the column.

The shocking footage released by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence shows a number of tanks moving through the war-torn countryside.

In the video, fires can be seen as the tanks break formation while explosions rock some of the vehicles.

It’s unclear how many, if any, of the tanks were seriously damaged or destroyed but the vehicles and accompanying infantry appear to make a hasty retreat from the battlefield.

The undated footage was purportedly filmed by Ukraine’s 31st Mechanised Brigade.

The same footage posted to Ukrainian social media claimed the tanks were trying to break through defences near Krasnohorivka, Donetsk just north of the embattled city of Marinka.

Moscow’s armoured forces have suffered substantial losses during the war. Ukraine’s General Staff claimed Sunday that Russia had lost eight tanks in the last 24 hours bringing its total losses to 5,175 since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Russia claims that Ukraine has lost 12,980 tanks and armoured vehicles during the war but neither claim has been independently verified.

The video comes as Russia has launched major offensives in on the eastern front, however, Moscow’s troops have reportedly achieved little success.

A fierce attack was launched around the city of Avdiivka on October 10. Ukraine has claimed to have destroyed hundreds of Russian vehicles in the area.

The Institute for the Study of War – a think tank which covers the conflict – said that Russian forces continued offensive operations but did not make any territorial gains there.

It comes as both sides seek the upper hand on the battlefield before the coming winter weather deteriorates fighting conditions further.
