Expert pinpoints one thing 'self-indulgent' Prince Harry and Meghan Markle depend on

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new website is “self-indulgent and shows the one thing they depend on most, a royal expert has said. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have launched Sussex.com, a new website to replace their Archewell site and showcase their work.

Harry is described on the page as a “humanitarian, military veteran, mental health advocate and environmental campaigner”. Meghan is called a “feminist and champion of human rights and gender equity”.

Rupert Bell, Talk TV royal correspondent, said the whole website showcases their “need to be loved”.

He said: “It is pretty self-indulgent, the whole website. And it does reflect their overriding dependency on their royal connections.

“And Harry wanted to come back and see his father last week, but given the relaunching and everything that’s going on, it would have done no harm in his mind to cement where he comes from.

“This introduction on the website where it’s saying “Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex” with their crest – I think the crest is the thing you have to take the most from, because that is definitely hinting that they are part of the Royal Family, which is something they don’t want to be part of.

“They want to be and need the Royal Family, they are the oxygen of their publicity. That’s what it’s about. They don’t want to be part of it but they need it desperately.

“They are desperate to be seen to be out there, they endlessly feel the need to be loved. But the Royal Family is probably thinking: ‘Oh, here we go again.’”

Buckingham Palace did not comment on the new site but, according to The Mirror, the couple did not consult palace officials before launching the new endeavour and have been called “exploitative”.

The Duke and Duchess have jetted off to Canada to kick off the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, which will mark the first winter sports event in Invictus Games history.
