Ex-Neighbours star Holly Valance could be Tories 'secret weapon' at election, MPs say

Holly Valance could be a “secret weapon for the Tories” if she stands as an MP, one Conservative member of parliament has said.

The Neighbours star, 40, made a surprise appearance at the launch of the Popular Conservatism group on Tuesday alongside her billionaire property tycoon husband Nick Candy.

One former Cabinet minister said it would be an “excellent idea” if Holly stood as a Tory candidate at the election.

Another veteran Tory said Vallance had been a regular at party bashes with her husband for at least a decade and said the idea of the former pop star being a parliamentary candidate “could well happen”.

The insider added: “‘Holly could be a secret weapon for the Tories.

“They need all the stardust they can get, and in a world where people have had enough of identikit politicians like Keir Starmer who are scared of their own shadow, she may be a fresh breath of air.”

Holly heaped praise on Liz Truss, Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg and Lee Anderson in a surprise appearance at the launch of a new Tory faction.

The Australian actress and singer quipped that Sir Jacob should be the next Prime Minister and voiced her appreciation for Mr Anderson.

She said: “Everyone starts off as a leftie and then wakes up at some point after you start making money, working, trying to run a business, trying to buy a home and then realise what c*** ideas they all are. And then you go to the right.”

She went on: “I thought Liz was really really interesting to listen to, Jacob for PM, the MP for Ashfield (Lee Anderson) was awesome, love a northerner, straight to the point and very sensible.”

Holly was pictured with her husband, who is a previous Tory party donor, at the event.

The PopCon group claims it is not looking to replace Rishi Sunak as leader of the Conservatives, but instead wants to spark a debate on ideas.

Ms Truss used the event to claim that “left-wing extremists” were taking over Britain’s institutions and former Cabinet minister Sir Jacob declared that the “age of Davos man is over”.
