Evil killer who murdered Zara Aleena on way home wins appeal to have life sentence reduced

Jordan McSweeney, who murdered Zara Aleena in Ilford, east London, in June 2022, has won a Court of Appeal bid to reduce the minimum term of his life sentence.

Last December McSweeney, 29, of Dagenham, east London, refused to come to court to be sentenced for the murder of Zara Aleena because he did not want to watch the CCTV footage of what he did.

During sentencing, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb went ahead because didn’t want “members of the family to wait any longer”.

After her murder, Farah Naz, Aleena’s aunt said her niece would still be alive had the probation service not made so many errors.

She said: “The probation service has a big part to play in Zara’s murder, they have a responsibility here.

“Government bears responsibility too, it is not just the probation service. They have blood on their hands.”
