Everton fire latest as huge plumes of smoke seen for miles


A fire has broke out in a district in Merseyside as onlookers share pictures of smoke sweeping across the county.

Merseyside Fire are in attendance as they tackle the flames. It is not yet clear where the fire has started but onlookers have said it appears to be off Everton Brow.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has been approached for details.

People near the scene took to social media to share footage of the blaze. A user of X, formerly Twitter, posted video showing raging flames and a plume of thick, black smoke, commenting: “Massive building fire in Everton Valley!”

Another video posted to X on Saturday (January 27) shows smoke rising into the air near Liverpool’s iconic Metropolitan Cathedral.

The Liverpool Echo has reported the fire is burning at a building in Fox Street, describing the emergency response as “huge”.

Members of the emergency services have established a cordon to keep onlookers away from the blaze.

Buses have been placed on diversion, according to the same publication.

Further footage shows smoke billowing over the River Mersey and Liverpool’s famous waterfront.
