Everton and Nottingham Forest are both reportedly expecting to be found in breach of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability (PSR) regulations and could face points deductions. The Toffees were already docked 10 points earlier in the campaign and such punishments would represent huge blows to both team’s hopes of avoiding relegation.
The Athletic have reported that both clubs are expecting to be notified on Monday that they have fallen foul of the financial regulations that were recently introduced.
Under PSR, clubs are allowed to lose a maximum of £105million or £35m per season over a rolling three-year reporting cycle, with a fine or points deduction the possible punishments.
Everton and Forest are reportedly expecting to be referred to an independent panel, with the clubs being informed on Monday to ensure that punishments are handed out in the same season that a charge is brought.
Both clubs have reportedly prepared mitigation and are expected to defend their case at the panel, with Everton already appealing the 10-point deduction brought against them.
All clubs had to submit their financial accounts for the the 2022-23 season by December 31, with any breaches and potential charges confirmed 14 days later. The next step is an independent commission, where clubs will have the right to appeal any decision.
