Europa League draw LIVE: Liverpool, West Ham and Rangers discover fate


The Europa League round of 16 draw takes place this morning with four British teams waiting to learn their fates. Premier League leaders Liverpool plus Brighton and West Ham and Rangers, top of the Scottish Premiership, are all in the seeded pot today and are waiting to find out who they will be paired with from the unseeded half of the draw.

Those four clubs all harbour realistic hopes of winning this year’s competition, as do Xabi Alonso’s Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen and Serie A giants AC Milan. The four British clubs and Leverkusen are into this round courtesy of winning their groups.

While Milan come into it after dropping out of the Champions League, having been in the same group as Newcastle who finished fourth. The Italians defeated Rennes in the Europa League knockout playoffs last night with Benfica, Braga and Sporting also joining them in Europe’s second-tier tournament after being dumped out of the European Cup.
