Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe ban issued by Real Madrid as club stand firm

Real Madrid have banned fans from having Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe on the back of their shirts. Supporters have the option of having Madrid players’ names and numbers printed on their jerseys while they can also make custom requests.

Several Madridistas’ have asked for Haaland and Mbappe’s names to be printed on their shirts but reports coming out of Spain claim that the club are rejecting requests of this nature. According to SER Deportivos, staff cannot fulfil the orders as image rights issues prevent them from adding players’ names from other clubs.

The radio station verified this with two fans who wanted to buy these kits. “They told us that it wasn’t for sale because they weren’t from Madrid, that’s why there wasn’t any,” the supporters said live on air.

Both players have been linked with moves to the Spanish capital in recent years. Haaland was subject to interest from Los Blancos before he signed for Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

However, club executives opted against pursuing the Norweigan goal machine as they thought they were about to land Mbappe’s signature. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez revealed that Mbappe was keen on joining the La Liga giants but that he had been “pressured” into extending his stay at PSG by French president Emmanuel Macron.

Speaking on El Chiringuito, Perez said: “Mbappe conveyed to the whole world his desire, his dream, to play for Real Madrid – he stated that publicly. We wanted to do it in August but it wasn’t possible, they wouldn’t let him go. It took a long time. We had to wait a year, that year passed and then the situation changed. I think it was due to political pressure and I think it was also economic.

“[PSG] practically offered him not only to be the leader of the team but also of the management. It was at that point that we saw it wasn’t the same Mbappe that we wanted to sign. He changed his dreams as a result of pressure.

“If a kid is called by the president of a country (Emmanuel Macron), of course it’ll affect him.” Mbappe’s PSG contract is set to expire in the summer and as of yet the club and player are yet to come to an agreement on an extension. Mbappe reportedly wants to move to the Santiago Bernabeu but doesn’t want to leave on a free transfer out of respect to the Ligue 1 champions.
