Emotional Harry had 'tears in his eyes' after releasing 'truth' to world with Spare

Prince Harry had “tears in his eyes” when he released his bombshell memoir Spare, according to ghostwriter JR Moehringer.

The Duke of Sussex’s book was released in January and included a number of damaging claims regarding life within the Royal Family.

Among these was the allegation that his brother Prince William physically attacked him during an argument in 2019.

The royals have not responded to the book directly, but the ghostwriter for the memoir has shared insight into how Harry was feeling following its release.

Writing in the New Yorker, Mr Moehringer said it was like “telling Taylor Swift about a bad breakup” after Harry’s book hit the shelves earlier this year.

He said: “It was like singing ‘Hallelujah’ to Leonard Cohen. Harry was all heart.”

They celebrated the book’s release together over a glass of wine, and even shared an emotional moment.

The author added: “He mentioned my advice, to ‘trust the book’, and said he was glad that he did, because it felt incredible to have the truth out there, to feel—his voice caught—’free’.

Mr Moehringer said: “My head was pounding, my jaw was clenched, and I was starting to raise my voice.

“And yet some part of me was still able to step outside the situation and think, this is so weird. I’m shouting at Prince Harry.

“Then, as Harry started going back at me, as his cheeks flushed and his eyes narrowed, a more pressing thought occurred: Whoa, it could all end right here.”

The fallout occurred while Harry and his ghostwriter were talking about a time when the Duke was captured by pretend terrorists at the end of a period of military exercises.

Harry was allegedy put through extreme training to see if he could cope with being held captive in a real-world combat situation.

Mr Moehringer also talks about the kindness of Meghan Markle in his article.

The Duchess of Sussex was aware that the author was missing his family when he came to their home in Montecito, California.

He added: “Harry put me up in his guesthouse, where Meghan and Archie would visit me on their afternoon walks.

“Meghan, knowing I was missing my family, was forever bringing trays of food and sweets.”

Mr Moehringer also revealed how Harry had said all his life “people had belittled his intellectual capabilities”.

At one stage, Harry was struggling to get his words out.

Mr Moehringer added: “Harry calmly explained that, all his life, people had belittled his intellectual capabilities.”
