Emma Raducanu vows to forget latest loss as struggles against the world's best continue

Emma Raducanu claims she needs “to forget about” her straight-sets defeat to Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur in Abu Dhabi. The former US Open winner battled back from 1-5 down in the first set and saved four set points before going down 6-4 6-1.

World No.6 Jabeur broke her serve five times and hit 35 winners. World No.296 Raducanu has now played three tournaments since her return from an eight-month injury layoff following ankle and wrist surgeries.

She has won three and lost three – and is now 0-5 against top-ten players in her young career.

“It was a tough match,” said Raducanu, 21. “She is a great opponent. She has amazing hand skills. Makes life really hard for you on the court, especially with the balls which are really heavy and dead, it is difficult to generate.

“Her defensive skills are great and I think that is something I need to improve on too. Credit to her – she played really well and it is just a match personally I need to forget about.”

Raducanu suggested she could drop down and play lower tier WTA 125 or ITF events after her second round defeat at the Australian Open if she cannot get wildcards.

Asked about her future schedule, she said: “Hopefully playing Doha. Then I go back and train and go to the States hopefully as well.”

Jabeiur said: “Emma is such an amazing player, I wish her all the best because I know she can play much better. I am a big fan of hers. I am looking forward to seeing her win more matches, just not against me.”
