'Embarrassed' Tube passenger's touching letter to random woman who stepped in to help

A woman’s trust in humankind has been reinstated after she started “feeling really unwell” on the London Underground and was helped my a random woman after vomiting.

The woman was using the Tube when – promptly – she started to feel sick and began to vomit, which would cause major embarrassment for most people. The underground is a stuffy place, where often strangers sit and look everywhere except in the direction of other people, and particularly do not talk to each other.

However, a stranger stepped out of the norm and helped a woman in-need, as an anonymous woman took to Reddit to reveal her heartfelt gratitude for their random act of kindness, The Mirror reports. In the Reddit post, the woman stated: “Thank you to the lovely lady who helped me get off the tube.”

The post continued: “So, I was on the tube on Tuesday and suddenly felt really unwell,” adding that she had “suddenly felt really hot, like a hot flush. I ended up throwing up, which was super gross and embarrassing. I just wanted to crawl into a hole and hide.”

The ill-struck woman was not sure what had caused her to vomit – it could have been a multitude of reasons – but she felt “pretty embarrassed about the whole thing”.

Coming to her rescue, an “amazing woman named Alex” helped leave her the Tube and identified a member of staff who could offer her support.

The lady continued: “Shoutout to them both for being compassionate and reminding me there are still some lovely humans out there. Anyway, I’m feeling pretty embarrassed about the whole thing, so if anyone has any funny embarrassing stories to share, please do.”

Reddit users proceeded to reveal their own shameful stories around being sick in public. One person said: “I drunkenly puked on the tube many years ago and a very well dressed man gave me an immaculate pressed hankie.

“I did offer it back but he said ‘no, you keep it’. I was mortified, but everyone was so nice, even though I was a mess.”

Another shared: “A friend threw up in the middle of the Champs-Élysées intersection and stopped traffic.” A third added: “I had a funny turn on the Piccadilly line last year during the heatwave.

“My vision went fuzzy and I felt close to fainting, I got off the train and leant my head against the platform tiled walls to cool down. So many people stopped to ask if I needed help; and helped me sit down etc. Lovely people.”
