Electric car driver claimed he had to hit 100mph because they 'needed more charge'

A speeding motorist clocked by police travelling at over 100mph allegedly claimed he needed to charge his electric car.

The driver was stopped by the Wiltshire Police Specialist Operations unit earlier this month. But it seems the excuse didn’t sit well with police, who pulled them over anyway.

The officers revealed the driver is now facing a day in court as well as the possibility of a rather hefty fine.

They shared an image of the speed gun that showed the driver was clocked at 101mph.

The miffed cops even pointed out that travelling at a quicker speed would use the vehicle’s battery quicker than keeping within the speed limit.

Taking to social media, they said: “The driver of this electric vehicle stated they were in a rush to plug in for more charge, they didn’t understand the faster you go the more juice the car uses! A trip to court awaits where hopefully more common sense prevails.”
